Meet the experienced and friendly doctors and staff who make Bradford County Eye Center the leading provider of vision care products and services in Starke.


Leonard Schlofman O.D.

Dr. Len Schlofman has been serving the Bradford, Alachua, Union and Clay counties for over thirty years. He went to the University of Tennessee and Illinois College of Optometry before graduating in 1979. He then served in the Navy before coming to Starke and establishing The Bradford County Eye Center. He has been very involved in the community and was a school board member for six years. He also has worked with the Florida Department of Corrections for over thirty years.

Dr. Schlofman is a member of the American Optometric Association, Florida Optometric Association, past president of the Northeast Florida Optometric Society, past chairman of the Florida Board of Optometry, and past president of Kiwanis.

He has 2 sons, Michael, David and one daughter, Jill. His wife is Therese, who you can also see working around the office. In his spare time, Dr. Schlofman enjoys spending time with his family, boating, and watching Tennessee Volunteer football.


Michael Schlofman O.D.

Dr. Michael Schlofman grew up in Starke, FL and is a 2000 graduate of Bradford County High School. He went to the University of Florida and Nova Southeastern University before completing his bachelor’s degree in Vision Science in 2004. He continued his education at Nova Southeastern College of Optometry and graduated in 2008 with honors.

Dr. Schlofman specializes in areas of ocular disease and contact lenses, with an emphasis on dry eye and glaucoma. Dr. Schlofman is a member of the American Optometric Association, Florida Optometric Association and Northeast Florida Optometric Society. He is also a member of the Starke Rotary Club.

Dr. Schlofman was married in May 2012 to Laura Schlofman, who is a teacher. They have 2 daughters, Kate (2015), Emily (2015) and one son, Colin (2013). In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, reading,watching gators and jags football, golf and other outdoor activities.


Kyle Balch M.D.

Dr. Balch is a board certified Ophthalmologist and certified Oculoplastic surgeon who offers patients the latest advancements in eye and cosmetic facial surgery.

A native Floridian, Dr. Balch is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and the UF College of Medicine. He completed one year internal medicine at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville and residency training at Emory University Department of Ophthalmology. In addition, he was fellowship trained in Orbital and Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Jules Stein Eye Institute/UCLA and Beverly Hills, California. In this highly specialized field, Dr. Balch is also one of a handful of Fellowship trained Oculoplastic surgeons in Florida. In fact, fewer than 30 surgeons complete such training in the U.S. each year.

With 17 years of experience, and having performed thousands of laser surgeries, Dr. Balch uses the latest advancements in laser cataract surgery, along with the most advanced lens implants to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses. These “state of the art” surgeries are generally pain-free and require no stitches, no needles, no shots and no patches. These laser cataract surgery techniques, along with the most advanced plastic surgery techniques, have earned Dr. Balch the reputation as one of the leading surgeons in North Florida.


Rachel Danos

Optical Manager

Rachel is our new optical manager. She handles our optical services and is our fashion frame expert. She will be glad to help you find your perfect pair of glasses. She can also help if you need your glasses repaired or adjusted. In her spare time, Rachel enjoys the gardening, and spending time with her husband and family.

 

 


 Nicole Drury

Medical Billing Manager

Nicole has been with us for 3 years. She handles all of our insurance claims and billing. She is great at multitasking, so you might also see her helping out in the optical or doing some receptionist work! She would be glad to help you if you have any insurance questions. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her daughter and watching movies.

 

 


Beth Kelley

Certified Paraoptometric Technician

Beth has been with us for 2 years now. She handles all pre-testing of our patients, works closely with our doctors, and takes all case history. She also takes photos with our Optomap Retinal Scan. In her spare time she enjoys the outdoors and spending time with her daughter.

 

 


Amanda Hall

Receptionist

Amanda is our newest employee. She handles our telephone calls, making appointments and looking up your insurance benefits. In her spare time she likes to work out, spend time with her family, and walk her dog. If you have any questions, call us and Amanda would be glad to help you.
